Conversations about Race & Racism: An online course for Leadership and Management Teams

Based on our popular courses, Being Fully Human: Dismantling Race & Racism in Conscious Communities and Talking to Kids about Race & Racism, we are now offering an online course called Conversations about Race & Racism, which we have customised specifically for leadership and management teams in companies and non-profit, educational or public sector organisations.

The course is 6 to 8 weeks long, depending on the needs and time frames of each client. Through workbooks, weekly exercises and interactive facilitated group calls, we offer a space to build a common language to talk about transformation and equity in the workplace through processing one’s individual journey with ‘race’ and racism and listening deeply to our collective journeys.  We have found that the current COVID-19 crisis is acting as a mirror and magnifying glass to the crisis that South Africa and many other countries have been in since the dawn of democracy – the persistent inequalities and need for transformation at a societal and organisational level is intensified through these times. It is spurring many to ask what the future will look like, how we can ensure it is different than the road we were on, and how to re-group and re-orientate to a more sustainable and healthy system. Our invitation is to use this moment to reflect on the bigger picture, and use the momentum from this crisis to drive deeper change.

We have found that our clients are each responding differently, with some postponing projects and processes due to current constraints, while others are approaching us to make the most of our online courses or individual and team coaching, and have critical conversations around transformation with management and staff whilst different forms of productivity and connection are available and becoming a necessity.

Of Skin, Soul, and Soil: A Healing Space for People of Colour

Join the Kopanya Institute on a nine-week journey exploring individual and collective healing and liberation from the legacies of oppression written onto bodies of colour. With embodied and intersectional awareness, we will together create a safe-enough space in which we can explore the ways in which being born into bodies of colour has shaped our lived experiences and oppressions, and build pathways to restoring our psyches, bodies, and souls, back to ourselves and this earth.

Being Fully Human: Dismantling Race and Racism in Conscious Communities

Join the Kopanya Institute on an eight-week online journey exploring race and racism in spiritually and socially motivated communities – from communities of practice and non profit organisations, to spiritual and religious communities, to yoga and therapeutic communities and spaces.

The course provides an opportunity to hold a mirror up to the narratives and practices that exist in these spaces that seek to connect people to themselves, each other, and often ‘the Divine’ or ‘greater good’ – yet can lead to experiences of alienation, exasperation, disconnect and trauma. We will present a range of models, reflexive exercises and practical tools to support you in working through the energy and emotions of race and racism in an embodied and integrated way, so that you can find right relationship to your heart, gut, and own expression, building pathways to healthy communication and connection with others.

Talking to Kids About Race and Racism

Join the Kopanya Institute for a 12 week online course exploring how to talk to kids of all ages, and other adults, about race and racism. The course is designed for anyone who is curious about how to have these conversations with kids, from parents and teachers, to caregivers and aunts/uncles – whether you have kids or not, this course is for anyone with an interest in a simple and accessible way of approaching what can be an intimidating subject!

The energetics of racialised encounters are challenging at the best of times, affecting us in profound physical ways. In interactions with children these can be even more difficult and confusing. Through practical tools and reflective exercises, and looking at real examples of the difficult questions kids ask, and the racialised situations they find themselves in – we help you to become equipped to support young individuals in their own task of meaning-making in a complex world, in a way that is true for them.
